More than a Law Firm. A Legacy of Justice
WELCOME TO Sheo narain legum
Sheo Narain Legum is built upon the enduring legacy of the late Choudhary Sheo Narain Singh (also known as Shiv Narain Singh) — a revered lawyer, statesman, and public servant whose life was marked by unwavering integrity, visionary leadership, and tireless dedication to justice and the public good.
Born into the Jakhar clan of the Hindu Jat community in Jhanswa Kalan, a village in present-day Jhajjar district of Haryana, Choudhary Sheo Narain Singh distinguished himself early in life through academic merit and civic spirit. He completed his B.A. from Lahore, followed by a law degree from Meerut College, Meerut (Agra University) in 1940. He then moved to Ajmer, where in 1941 he was admitted as a Pleader in all courts of the Ajmer-Merwara Province, including the Court of the Judicial Commissioner, the province’s highest judicial forum.
In 1946, he passed the Special Test in Law, enabling him to practise before the Lahore High Court. Following the adoption of the Indian Constitution and the merger of Ajmer-Merwara into Rajasthan in 1956, he practised extensively before the Rajasthan High Court, Rajasthan Revenue Board, and subordinate courts.
In 1952, he was elected as the first Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pushkar, in the inaugural elections following independence. As Protem Speaker of the Ajmer-Merwara Assembly, he was entrusted with the solemn and distinguished duty of administering the oath of office to the Members — a testament to the profound trust and esteem he held within the political establishment.
His public life evoked widespread appreciation across party lines and communities. He was admired for his broad social vision, his ability to connect deeply with the rural masses, and his genuine concern for the underrepresented — not only within his constituency but across the entire State of Rajasthan.
Throughout his distinguished career, Choudhary Sheo Narain Singh was celebrated for his unshakeable integrity and moral compass that never wavered. His life in public service was marked by such unimpeachable integrity that even his opponents across the aisle accorded him respect, never casting doubt on his moral rectitude or sense of duty.
He held numerous key positions including serving as the first Chairman of the District Board, Ajmer (Jila Pramukh), Member of the Rajasthan Land Reform Commission (1957–59) — a body instrumental in shaping the state’s land laws — President of the Bar Association, Ajmer, and Vice President of the Rajasthan Revenue Board Bar Association. He also served as Director and Chairman of several prominent organisations, contributing meaningfully to policy, law, and civic welfare.
A man of discipline, service, and principle, he brought honour not just to his family but to the very land that shaped him. His life continues to inspire generations of legal professionals and public servants.

The Legacy Continues
This proud tradition was carried forward with equal dedication by his son, Advocate Dharmendra Singh Choudhary, who also served as President of the Bar Association, Ajmer, and Vice President of the Rajasthan Revenue Board Bar Association.
Today, the legacy thrives under the stewardship of his grandson, Ajay Singh, a third-generation legal professional. Ajay Singh is an Advocate-on-Record in the Supreme Court of India, and also actively practises before the Delhi High Court and the Rajasthan High Court. His practice spans diverse areas of constitutional law, civil litigation, regulatory matters, and intellectual property, reflecting a broad and contemporary legal expertise. He remains firmly committed to upholding the enduring values of integrity, discipline, and public responsibility that have long defined the ethos of the family’s legal tradition.
