Sheo Narain Legum is built upon the enduring legacy of the late Choudhary Sheo Narain Singh (also known as Shiv Narain Singh) — a revered lawyer, statesman, and public servant whose life was marked by unwavering integrity, visionary leadership, and tireless dedication to justice and the public good.
In 1952, he was elected as the first Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pushkar, in the inaugural elections following independence. As Protem Speaker of the Ajmer-Merwara Assembly, he was entrusted with the solemn and distinguished duty of administering the oath of office to the Members — a testament to the profound trust and esteem he held within the political establishment.
Born into the Jakhar clan of the Hindu Jat community in Jhanswa Kalan, a village in present-day Jhajjar district of Haryana, Choudhary Sheo Narain Singh distinguished himself early in life through academic merit and civic spirit. He completed his B.A. from Lahore, followed by a law degree from Meerut College, Meerut (Agra University) in 1940. He then moved to Ajmer, where in 1941 he was admitted as a Pleader in all courts of the Ajmer-Merwara Province, including the Court of the Judicial Commissioner, the province’s highest judicial forum.
In 1946, he passed the Special Test in Law, enabling him to practise before the Lahore High Court. .
